I was born
in Ankara in 1980. After four years’ education in TED Ankara Private College
Primary Section, I have concluded my primary education in London Myatt Garden
Primary School. I continued to my secondary and high school education in Gazi
Anatolian High School. In 1997, I was admitted to Ankara University
Faculty of Political Science which, was founded in 1859 in the time of Ottoman
Empire and later was revitalized in accordance with the Turkish Republic, and
has a privileged position with its tradition and antiquity by educating the
administrative staff and many of the most important political characters in
Turkey. I graduated from the University in 2001. Being able to understand the
social and historical phenomena by realizing the role of labour economics in
human history have triggered my desire of making a career in the field of
Labour Economics and Social Policy.
In 2001, I
attended the “Labour Economics, Industrial Relations and Social Policy” master
programme in Ankara University Faculty of Political Science. Later that year I
applied as a research assistant to realize my objective of making academic
career to Ankara University Faculty of Political Science. Since 2002 I have
been a research fellow in Ankara University Faculty of Political Science
Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations.
In 2004, I
concluded the master programme and submitted my master thesis, “Impacts of the
economic policies post 1980 on income distribution in Turkey”. Same year I
started PhD and decided to study labour and social policy through an historical
aspect. Hence, I have started to study the history of production and labour
processes and submitted my PhD thesis, “The birth of modern factory system and
its phases until today”, in 2010.
In 2013, I was awarded
with the Turkish Council of Higher
Education (YÖK), Post-Doctoral Research Grant and conducted research at
University of Tübingen (Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen,
Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftliche Fakultät, Instituts für
Politikwissenschaft) as a post-doc fellow.
Since 2010 I have been
giving lectures in Turkish and English titled “Introduction to Social Policy”,
“European Union Employment and Social Policy”, “Labour Market Analysis”, “Wage
Theories and Wage Policies” and “The History of Social Policy” in Ankara
University Faculty of Political Science. I am interested in different aspects
of social policy, income distribution, wage theories, wage policies, especially
the implementations about the minimum wage, human resources and human capital
in employment, labour markets and the social policy perspective of labour market
structure in Turkey especially the gender inequalities and the conditions of
women in labour market.
I married in 2014 and my
son was born in 2015. Beside my academic life, I am interested with literature,
geography, history, archeology and mythology. I have a poetry book which I
dedicated to my wife and novel drafts some I started but couldn’t find the
opportunity to finish. I am a Besiktas fan and closely related with tribune
culture. I am a deep Star Wars and Lord of the Rings fan. I still have fan film
projects which I couldn’t find the opportunity to shoot. I am interested in all
sort of plants especially potted ones. I am interested in the art of Bonsai. I
have a ficus ginseng which is started to take a tree form after five years
pruning. I have many planted trees here and there and many others which I
intent to plant.
